McDaniels key player for teams seeking O-coordinator
The hottest offensive coordinator candidate right now is probably Josh McDaneils.
From all appearances, the Minnesota Vikings have put their search to fill that position on hold while they wait to see what McDaniels does. He’s already met with the Vikings and he is interviewing with the St. Louis Rams.
“I think the Rams' organization obviously is a great place," McDaniels told Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I know Steve (Spagnuolo). I've known him for a few years now. And it's a place that would interest anybody.
"It's an exciting place because I think they have everything just going in the right direction there. And that's a credit to Steve and Billy (Devaney) and everybody there in the organization. We'll see how it all plays out, but I'd be excited, too."
The Rams are working to replace Pat Shurmur, who departed to be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress is also in the running for the job. It’s an attractive position because of the presence of quarterback Sam Bradford. Offensive coordinators are evaluated on how the performance of their quarterbacks, and that makes this a coveted position.
Spagnuolo and Childress, who is also interviewing in Miami, have worked on the same staff before in Philadelphia. So, there is familiarity there. Teams are going to look to have most major moves done before the Senior Bowl.
