McKinnie arrives, has back injury from 'accident'

The Bryant McKinnie absence is over, as he has arrived in Baltimore after missing four days of Ravens training camp. He will be at camp today.

But a new chapter is now at hand, as McKinnie indicated that a back injury from a fall caused him to not report to camp on time.

"Why isn't anybody saying I got hurt? I don't know what people thought was going on. How I got hurt is running out of the house. It was slippery and I fell and hurt my lower back. You can't be playing football when your back is hurting. When I fell, I said, 'I know I ain't going out like this,'" he said via the Carroll County Times.

McKinnie's reasoning is interesting in that, had he went ahead and reported, he could have saved himself the $30,000 per day fines the Ravens are allowed to assess him. The team could have simply placed him on the non-football injury list until he could pass his physical and return to practice.

McKinnie's weight is sure to be an issue as the Ravens told him to report to camp at no more than 345 pounds. The club would not let him take part in mini-camp because he was at 354 pounds.
