McNabb gets familiar No. 5 with Redskins

They don’t have a picture of it just yet because, well, one hasn’t rolled off the assembly line just yet.

But you can grab your plastic and place your order for a Donovan McNabb Washington Redskins jersey. The matter of what number he will wear was resolved rather quickly. McNabb will keep his familiar No. 5 and just change colors.

Colt Brennan, who was the owner of No. 5, will switch to No. 15. So, yes, you can probably place orders for your new Brennan jersey too if you don’t want to grab a permanent marker and add the No. 1 yourself.

The Redskins announced the switcheroo via their Twitter account. Who knows yet whether McNabb will grease Brennan a little as a way of saying thank you. It will be interesting to see if Brennan can compete for a backup role now. Jason Campbell is clearly headed out of town and after that it would leave Rex Grossman and Brennan behind McNabb. Mike Shanahan could also draft a young quarterback to develop, but given the team’s needs, maybe he’ll roll with what he has.

Oh yeah, in case you were wondering, cornerback Phillip Buchanon was assigned No. 38.
