Michael Crabtree on the mend from fractured foot
Michael Crabtree is close to returning from a fractured left foot, and might be on the practice field this coming week.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee uncovers the exact nature of Crabtree’s injury that was suffered in June during player-run workouts. According to his report, Crabtree suffered a fracture and underwent surgery before training camp opened, leading the club to place him on the physically unable to perform list.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said it’s “possible” Crabtree will come off PUP and get on the field this week even though his status for the start of the season remains very much in question.
Crabtree’s draft status was clouded by a stress fracture in the same foot when he was coming out of Texas Tech and entering the 2009 draft. Right now, he’s out of the walking boot he was using and while Harbaugh has been tight-lipped about exactly how the club is proceeding with Crabtree, it sounds like things are looking up. Right now, the Niners could use some good news.
“He's been outstanding with his participation in the meetings,” Harbaugh said. “His understanding and knowledge of what we're trying to do is very good.”
