Michael Vick will have MRI, CT scan on injured ribs

Twelve plays and two X-rays is what Michael Vick has to show for the preseason at this point.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has played six plays in each of the team’s two preseason games so far and he’s left both to be examined. On Monday night, it was an X-ray of his ribs after a hit knocked him out of the game at New England.

The good news is the X-rays came back negative and nothing is broken. But the Eagles will have Vick undergo an MRI and CT scan today in an effort to get a better handle on the issue. Vick had to have a thumb X-rayed after the preseason opener.

He’s sore,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He was trying to talk me into going back in. How sore is sore? He got a good shot there. The precautionary measure is to see if it’s involving cartilage there.”

Vick missed time in 2010 with a rib cartilage injury and those can be extremely painful. Rookie Nick Foles was steady as his replacement but the Patriots were resting a host of top players and the Eagles have yet to see their starting offense click with Vick.

It’s the question that’s going to follow him as long as he plays – can Michael Vick remain healthy?
