Mike Martz recovering from hip replacement surgery
Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz is recovering from hip-replacement surgery, forcing him to use a cane at times this past week during the team’s OTA’s.
Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that Martz had the surgery within the last two weeks. He was hobbled at times and sat in a golf cart during other times on the practice field. Martz was not using a cane during minicamp from May 21-23, but he was not moving around very well.
It’s expected that a full recovery will take him about two weeks, putting him back to full strength around the start of training camp. Typically, coach Lovie Smith has encouraged the Bears assistant coaches to ride bicycles during training camp. The bikes are then donated to area youth at the end of camp each summer. In the past, the Bears outfitted all assistant coaches with golf carts.
