Mike McCarthy could have street named after him in Green Bay

If they’re going to name a street after Mike McCarthy in Green Bay, the Packers coach hopes it’s an honor that waits for the offseason.

The coach sounded genuinely humbled by the situation, but made it clear he doesn’t want a distraction in-season.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he’d like to rename Ridge Road McCarthy Way during the team’s bye week later this month.

"I'm flattered," McCarthy said Friday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "It's an unbelievable gesture. But, in my opinion, it's something that I'd like to see done in the offseason."

"I was a little taken aback when it was in the paper a couple weeks ago," McCarthy said. "It's humbling. I know my family and my children will really enjoy it. I would prefer that it be in the offseason."

Governmental bodies would have to sign off on a street name change. There are roads named after Vince Lombardi, Mike Holmgren and Curly Lambeau.
