Mike Shanahan says he hasn't picked a starting QB yet
Go ahead and tap the brakes a little on the whole John Beck is the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins thing.
Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post has an amusing take on the situation, which is fueling debate in D.C. It’s not the first time there has been controversy. He references a good ol’ fashioned battle between Hall of Famer Sonny Jurgensen and Billy Kilmer. They sold T-shirts when the hot topic was Heath Shuler vs. Gus “In Gus We Trust” Frerotte.
Now, it’s Beck vs. Rex Grossman. And Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he hasn’t made a choice although it’s been insinuated that Beck is his guy.
“First of all, I’ve never mentioned a starter,” Shanahan told Albert Breer of the NFL Network, per Steinberg. “I’ve never even insinuated a starter. I said I had a lot of belief in John Beck, I had a lot of belief in Rex Grossman. We’re gonna play the best player at the end of camp, but I do believe in both those guys. I’ve watched them practice. You make decisions based on practice. I’ve watched both these guys for a year, I like what they bring to the table. Now I get a chance to watch them compete on a day-to-day basis.”
May the best man win.
