Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is travelling to see knee specialist Dr. James Andrews to determine the status of the injury that knocked him out of Sunday’s wild-card round playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan could not offer new information on the controversial injury during his press conference this afternoon at Redskins Park. He said Griffin would be examined further on Tuesday.

Speculation has been perhaps Griffin suffered a torn ACL, an injury he had previously during college, but nothing has been determined, per Shanahan.

“Any time there's old injuries with ACL and LCL, there's always differences of opinion on the MRI, so that's why he's going to see Dr. Andrews tomorrow," Shanahan said, according to NFL.com.

“What you have to do is make decisions that you think are the right decisions,” Shanahan said. “You go with what you think is right.

Shanahan also defended the sloppy turf at FedEx Field and said that sometimes fresh sod isn’t the best solution when there isn’t a lot of time for a new field to settle.

“Sometimes after you put sod down, it's worse,” he said. “I thought the field was okay because you didn't see people slipping.”
