Mike Shanahan won't be fired with cause

Nearing the end of what's been a disappointing season in Washington, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan will not be fired with cause, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Citing a source within the organization, Shanahan's contract will make it difficult for the Redskins to fire him without owing the $7 million he's slated to earn in 2014.

The only way for Redskins owner Dan Snyder to get out of paying Shanahan any extra dollars after this season would to hope the coach resigns.

However, on Monday, Shanahan told reporters he will not resign following the end of this season. Therefore it appears that Shanahan will be getting $7 million from the Redskins in 2014, whether he's the head coach of the team or not.
