Mikel Leshoure failed to show for arraignment

Mikel Leshoure failed to show for his arraignment on Monday but no bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of the Detroit Lions running back.

He faces a felony charge of possession of marijuana in Berrien County, Mich., District Court after he was allegedly busted with the drug for the second time in a month.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports Baroda-Lake Township police chief Gary Ruhl said Leshoure no-showed for his arraignment but that Elton Moore, the Lions’ director of security, called late Monday afternoon and said Leshoure was at the team’s facility and believed the arraignment had been adjourned until Wednesday.

Leshoure was cited with possession of marijuana following a Feb. 18 traffic stop by Benton Township Police in Berrien County and pleased to a lesser charge of use of marijuana. In this latest instance on March 12, Leshoure attempted to eat the marijuana he had when police stopped a rental car Leshoure was riding in.

According to the report, Leshoure had “small pieces of marijuana down the front of his shirt” and complied with officers when he was instructed to spit out the drug. Leshoure admitted to smoking marijuana to the officers.

He could face up to two years in jail for the repeat offense, and obviously Leshoure will come under scrutiny of the NFL.
