Mularkey's son arrested on drug charges
The youngest son of new Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey was arrested over the weekend on cocaine charges in North Carolina.
Shane Michael Mularkey, 21, was arrested in Chapel Hill, N.C., along with two others, according to the Associated Press.
The younger Mularkey was a member of the University of North Carolina football team in 2009, appearing in all 13 games. However, he left the squad in 2010.
Mularkey and Jaguars owner Shahid Khan issued statements carried by Action News, CBS-47 in Jacksonville.
"Mike reached out to me this afternoon. I expressed to Mike that I share his concern for his son and the situation, and I let Mike know he has my personal support. It has no bearing on the respect and trust I have for Mike as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. We simply hope for the best for Mike and his family," Khan said.
Head coach Mike Mularkey added, "I am grateful for the support that I've received from the Jaguars family and apologize for any distraction. We are attempting to learn more about the situation and I appreciate everyone's understanding that this is a private family matter, and therefore cannot add anything further at this time."
