Murdock left apologies just before suicide

Before Tennessee Titans receiver O.J. Murdock took his own life on Monday in Tampa, Fla., he had made contact with a number of people who had helped him in his past.

Murdock sent texts and made a call thanking them and apologizing to them apparently for what he was about to do, according to a story from

Murdock sent a text in the early morning to a former college coach, Al McCray that read, "Coach, I want to thank you for everything you've done for me and my family. It's greatly appreciated."

Murdock concluded the text with "I apologize." Murdock also called a former high school coach, Aesha Bailey and apologized to him.

He texted Tampa sportswriter Bill Ward and thanked him for his help. When Ward texted back and asked if Murdock's torn Achilles had healed, he got no reply.
