Namath: Ryan 'too darn nice' to Jets' players

For a guy who hasn't thrown a pass in an NFL game since the disco era, Joe Namath has been getting a lot of attention lately for matters that are football-related.

Most of the attention Namath has been gathering over the past few weeks has been his penchant for making on-air comments about his former team - the New York Jets, who are currently mired in a three-game losing streak under Rex Ryan.

The Hall of Fame quarterback's latest comments about Ryan and the Jets is that Ryan is "too darn nice," according to ESPNNewYork.com, which took the comments from the Michael Kay Radio Show.

"I just think he's been too darn nice to this team" Namath said. "These guys aren't as smart as they think they are. They're making too many penalties; they're busting too many assignments. They just haven't been focused the way you need to focus to win consistently in the league."

With those comments, it's a good thing that Namath isn't still playing or the Jets might have shipped him to Houston along with Derrick Mason.

While Ryan has fired back at Namath in the past, and Jets players have said they pay no heed to what the quarterback says, until the Jets make it to another Super Bowl and equal Namath's feat of nearly 43 years ago by bringing a championship to the franchise, there will be a certain segment of the Jets' fanbase that will buy the relevancy of the QB's quips.
