Nate Clements planning on returning to 49ers

Nate Clements is working out with his San Francisco 49ers teammates in the midst of the lockout, so it’s clear he plans to return to the team.

There’s one big catch, though, involving the veteran cornerback. He’s going to have to take a significant pay cut to remain on the roster, business that will have to be resolved when the lockout finally ends.

Clements is set to make more than $15 million this season, according to Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News, money he knows he’s not going to see. What kind of reduction he’ll have to take to meet the team’s demands, well, who knows. Clements just knows he wants to be back.

“Absolutely," Clements he told Brown. "I never said I didn't. That's not really an issue."

But it is an issue until a new agreement is in place.
