New Meadowlands Stadium closing in on naming rights deal
Jerry Jones wasn’t able to locate a corporate partner to slap its name all over Cowboys Stadium prior to Super Bowl XLV.
Sounds like the Giants and Jets will not have the same problem when it comes to their joiny shiny home.
Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Journal reports the clubs are close to selling naming rights for the stadium, and that a deal could get done prior to this coming season. Of course, the teams are hosting the 2014 Super Bowl.
Jones has been holding out for top dollar for his stadium that already hosted the NBA All-Star Game and has more marquee events lined up. The Giants and Jets don’t have quite the same draw for events at their stadium because it doesn’t have a roof, but they do play 20 home games there a season, not 10. Naming rights were initially priced at $30 million for 20 years. The price has reportedly dropped some. We’ll see if a corporation is willing to meet it soon.
