NFL exec hints Vikings could leave without new stadium deal

Zygi Wilf doesn’t need to say it himself.

He’s got the NFL to drop hints for him.

If the Minnesota Vikings don’t get a resolution to their stadium situation soon, they could become the Los Angeles Vikings – or be moved to some other location.

It’s a hot topic in Minnesota and behind the scenes a lot is being done to push the issue forward, but nothing is a done deal, not even a proposed plan to build a stadium in suburban Arden Hills.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton met with NFL vice president Eric Grubman, and Grubman made it clear the time to act is now for state lawmakers.

If the moment is now, then let's take this moment. Let's seize the opportunity," Grubman said at the Capitol, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

"We're worried about a stalemate. A stalemate means there's no lease or the lease is about to expire,” Grubman said. “There's no plan for a stadium, and there's an alternative plan in another city. That's a stalemate. And the alternative wouldn't include Minnesota. That is, in the way we look at it, a crisis.”

The Vikings’ lease at the Metrodome expires after this season and if that happens, all bets are off. The NFL can’t prevent Wilf from seeking a new home.
