NFL fines Nick Collins $50,000
Typically, the NFL waits until Friday to announce the fines that have been handed out from the previous weekend’s games.
There was no delay whatsoever when it came to the fine handed down to Green Bay Packers safety Nick Collins for the shot he gave Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams to the back of the head in Sunday night’s game at Lambeau Field.
The NFL socked Collins with a $50,000 fine, which seems high for a player with a reputable history of clean football. Collins, of course, has the right to appeal the fine.
The league is cracking down in a big way on helmet-to-helmet hits but the fines are growing large and it will be interesting to see how much longer the NFLPA will survey the action before getting involved. DeMaurice Smith commented on it last week, but it seems like the union might want to get involved sooner rather than later.
