NFL says Soldier Field is in good shape for title game
The much-maligned playing surface at Soldier Field is in good shape.
That is what NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said via his Twitter account.
The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers will play at Soldier Field in the NFC Championship Game at 3 p.m. Sunday. The natural grass playing surface his traditionally been one of the lowest-ranked in NFLPA surveys and players have ripped it this season. Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings called it the worst in the league this week and Bears cornerback Charles Tillman called it a word we can’t use at the National Football Post, one that rhymes with gritty.
“Game Ops folks say Soldier Field is in good shape,” Aiello tweeted. “Field is tarped with hot blowers under the tarp and heating coils under the field.”
Soldier Field was completely re-sodded on Dec. 1 and the Bears have played three games on it since.
