NFL still reviewing Nick Collins incident at Soldier Field
The NFL is continuing its investigation into an incident Monday night at Soldier Field involving Green Bay Packer safety Nick Collins and a fan after the game.
Collins and witnesses to the exchange said that a fan taunted him with racial slurs and spit at him. Collins responded by throwing his mouthguard into the stands, an act that could bring about some discipline for him even though he has since apologized.
“We are continuing to review all the facts,” an NFL spokesman said when asked if Collins would be fined.
There were some fines handed out from the game, though. Packers rookie linebacker Frank Zombo was fined $7,500 for helmet-to-helmet contact with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Fellow Packers linebacker Clay Matthews got a $5,000 fine for a facemask infraction that happened when he tackled Cutler on a scramble from behind. Penalties were called on the play and the undisciplined Packers racked up 18 penalties for 152 yards, the most penalties they’ve received in a single game in more than 20 years.
