No appeal yet from Sean Payton

If the New Orleans Saints are going to appeal the suspension of head coach Sean Payton for the entirety of the 2012 season, presumably they’ll do that today.

Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports there was no news on that front through Thursday. Payton’s suspension is set to begin Sunday.

Payton was back at work at the club’s facility after the conclusion of the NFL owners meetings in Florida. He and general manager Mickey Loomis have been working on “contingency plans for Payton’s absence,” according to Triplett.

Payton has yet to say publicly if he will appeal a suspension that turned out to be much longer than expected. If he appeals, Payton will be dealing with the man who suspended him – Commissioner Roger Goodell. Payton will be allowed to remain on the job while appealing, but Goodell has indicated the process will be expedited.

Stay tuned.
