Offensive line issues exposed as Cardinals fall from unbeaten

The Arizona Cardinals’ undefeated run came to an end with a thud Thursday night in St. Louis as they were pummeled 17-3 by the Rams.

Kevin Kolb was sacked nine times as defensive end Robert Quinn had a career-high three and once again the leaky offensive line of the Cardinals was exposed. Nine sacks was a club record for the Rams. Arizona was in position to score in the red zone twice late in the game but was turned away on fourth down both times.

The Cardinals now have 10 days to examine what was wrong upfront for a team that has been plagued with offensive line issues. Kolb completed 28 of 50 passes for 289 yards but was battered thoroughly.

There’s probably a whole laundry list of things we need to get better at,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said afterward.

That list would have to start with the offensive line and protection.

“I won’t know what happened until I watch the film,” left guard Daryn Colledge said. “You can’t throw it 50 times and not give up sacks.”
