Osi Umenyiora could miss a month with 'real bad' ankle sprain

The New York Giants will be without defensive end Osi Umenyiora when they host the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

A “real bad” ankle sprain could sideline Umenyiora as long as a month, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, a tough blow for a team that appears to be fading from the NFC playoff picture.

Umenyiora “sprained pretty much everything in there” in Monday’s blowout loss at New Orleans, per the report. Umenyiora could target a Dec. 18 game vs. the Washington Redskins as a return date.

Umenyiora missed the first three games of the season following arthroscopic knee surgery during training camp. So, in the end, he’ll probably miss nearly half of the 2011 season.
