Packers announce 2014 coaching staff

The Green Bay Packers announced what their coaching staff will look like for the upcoming 2014 season.

Winston Moss will be the assistant head coach/linebackers coach, seemingly taking over both inside and outside linebackers. Moss previously coached just inside linebackers, but will take on a bigger role with Kevin Greene resigning from the team. Scott McCurley was announced as an assistant linebackers coach.

Alex Van Pelt will be Green Bay's quarterbacks coach after previously coaching running backs. Former NFL fullback Sam Gash will coach running backs and Jason Simmons will be a defensive/special teams assistant.

The move that generated the most buzz on Friday was the hiring of Ron Zook as an assistant special teams coach. Multiple reports previously linked Zook to coaching outside linebackers, which was not announced in Green Bay's press release. Zook is a former head coach of the Florida Gators and Illinois Fighting Illini.

John Rushing was hired as a defensive quality control coach and Luke Getsy will bean offensive quality control coach. Chris Gizzi was named the a strength and conditioning assistant.

“The offseason is progressing with the finalization of adjustments and additions to our coaching staff,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said in a statement. “Every day and every decision has the focus on bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay. The evaluation process will continue with a vision to change, adjust or emphasize any aspect of our program to help us reach the attainable goal of another Super Bowl championship.”
