Aaron Rodgers is expected to start Sunday against the Detroit Lions, but the Green Bay Packer will likely get a good look at Matt Flynn.

The Packers have the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs locked up and it’s really just a matter of how much time the backup will get.

As Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, there’s a lot on the line for the 26-year-old Flynn. He will be a free agent after the season and it’s an opportunity to showcase himself . Flynn passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns in what was nearly an upset of the New England Patriots last season. If he can build on that, he’ll certainly enhance his resume.

“If I get an opportunity to play, I just want to go in there, execute and put points on the board," Flynn said. "I want to go out there, run the offense, take what's given to me. My goal as a backup quarterback is to try my best to not let there be a huge drop-off at the position.

"There are guys in this league that fall into the trap of thinking they're in a contract year and they have to play good for the future. But that's a trap you have to avoid. You have to really take it day by day and look at the now, not what's going to happen."

The seventh-round pick has come along nicely. While there might not be enough game tape for teams to consider investing big in him, it’s certainly a prime opportunity for Flynn, who has the important job of backing up the quarterback for a Super Bowl favorite. We’ll see how much time Packers coach Mike McCarthy gives him. It could be a half or more.
