Packers fire assistants Sam Gash, Jerry Fontenot

The Green Bay Packers fired running backs coach Sam Gash and tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot. “It’s been a pleasure to work with Jerry for the past 10 seasons,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. “He has given a lot to this organization and has been a big part of our success. We wish Jerry, Stephanie and their family all the best moving forward. I would like to thank Sam for his contributions to the team over the past two seasons. We hope for the best for Sam, Alicia and their family in the future.” Gash joined the Packers as running backs coach in 2014 after spending five seasons with the Detroit Lions. Fontenot joined the Packers in McCarthy's first season as a coaching intern and then was kept on as an offensive assistant during the season. He was promoted to assistant offensive line coach, a position he held until McCarthy made him the running backs coach in 2011. He moved to tight ends coach in 2012.
