Packers, Nick Collins still awaiting word on his future
The Green Bay Packers and Nick Collins have been waiting for a medical recommendation on his future and it’s likely that will not come until after the draft.
Originally, Collins hoped to know whether he would be able to return from a serious neck injury early this month. Now, his agent Alan Herman told Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette that they are waiting for analysis from other medical professionals.
“All the opinions aren’t in,” Herman told Demovsky, “and I think he’s getting another opinion. That doctor was not available — he was on vacation — so I’m hopeful soon. But I think he’s got another meeting with one of the (doctors).”
Collins underwent spinal fusion surgery in September. It was a potentially career-ending injury but the former Pro Bowl performer desires to return if he’s cleared. Collins has already seen the doctor who performed the surgery and now Herman says the wait is because other doctors are involved.
We’ll see if Packers general manager Ted Thompson believes the club should cover itself at the position in the draft.
