Packers not closing door on Jermichael Finley?

The Green Bay Packers haven't closed the door on potentially bringing back tight end Jermichael Finley, provided that he gains clearance from a possible career-threatening spinal cord injury.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said the team remains open to Finley coming back, telling Sirius XM NFL Radio that the team is keeping a close eye on the tight end following his single-fusion cervical spine surgery.

“In my mind he is a Green Bay Packer – hopefully,” McCarthy said. “[Finley] is going through a tough medical situation. I think we all recognize that it was a serious injury. My understanding is he is doing everything and beyond to get himself ready. We’ll continue to watch that.”

McCarthy also mentioned defensive lineman Johnny Jolly, who's also coming off a neck injury that required spinal fusion surgery.

“I’ll say this about Jermichael and Johnny: First and foremost, I just want them to be healthy,” McCarthy said. “And then with that, they’re obviously our players and we have strong interest in. We’ll see what happens after that."
