Packers promote Clements, name Bennett offensive coordinator, Zook special teams coordinator
The Green Bay Packers have shuffled their coaching staff and responsibilities.
Head coach Mike McCarthy will no longer call plays.
They promoted Tom Clements to associate head coach-offense and he'll call plays. They named Edgar Benntt the offensive coordinator.
"Tom Clements will be the play caller," McCarthy said. "Biggest change personally, I felt play-calling was something I could do, but the committment Monday through Saturday won't work as well. Edgar has role to be in Joe Philbin and Tom Clements' role. Alex Van Pelt has a unique opportunity."
Ron Zook is the special teams coordinator.
Alex Van Pelt is the receivers coach and quarterbacks coach.
Mike Solari is the assistant offensive line coach.
Jerry Montgomery is the defensive front assistant.
And Jason Simmons is the assistant special teams coach.
Clements was the Packers’ offensive coordinator for the past three seasons after serving as quarterbacks coach in his first six years with Green Bay.
Bennett begins his 23rd NFL season in 2015, including his 21st in Green Bay. He spent the past four seasons as the Packers’ wide receivers coach after six seasons as the running backs coach.
Van Pelt will be entering his fourth season with the Packers and his 10th as an NFL coach. This past season he was the Packers' quarterbacks coach.
Solari, who will be entering his 27th season as an assistant coach in the NFL in 2015, joins the Packers after spending the past five seasons as the offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers. for the past two seasons.
Zook is in his second season with Green Bay, having served as assistant special teams coach in 2014. The 2015 season will mark his eighth season as an NFL assistant and his fourth as a special teams coordinator.
Simmons will be entering his fifth season with Green Bay in 2015, having served as a defensive/special teams assistant last season and as a coaching administrator from 2011-13.
