Packers signed Colt Lyerla

The Green Bay Packers have signed troubled former Oregon tight end Colt Lyerla following a minicamp tryout.

Lyerlla was kicked off the Oregon team and charged with possession of cocaine.

According to police reports, Lyerla was seen using cocaine in his car and tried to run from police when his house was searched.

Lyerla is extremely athletic with a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash and a 39-inch vertical leap. The 6-foot-4, 242-pounder caught 25 passes for 392 yards and six touchdowns in 2012 playing for Chip Kelly.

"I can't really say too much about that, but it's something I deeply, deeply regret and it's a mistake I'll have to live with the rest of my life," Lyerla said during the NFL scouting combine in February. "I think the biggest thing was just making the choice to move away from home and get myself in a place to where I'm only doing positive things, just continuing to stay on the right track. Mainly, it was having a big sit-down with my family and coming to an agreement with myself as far as the negative things I was doing and what I need to do to change."

The Packers signed third-round defensive lineman Khyri Thornton, defensive back Charles Clay and defensive end Luther Robinson.
