Packers will be without Clay Matthews for a couple weeks
The Green Bay Packers are bracing to be without linebacker Clay Matthews, the team’s top pass rusher, for “a couple weeks” after he suffered a pulled hamstring.
Coach Mike McCarthy said that Matthews had seen doctors and the expectation was he would be out a couple weeks, according to Tom Silverstien of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Now, that leaves open to interpretation what a couple weeks is. Two weeks? Three weeks?
The good news the Packers are entering their bye week and that will give Matthews time to rest.
“Let's just hope that he heals quick," Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers said. "Obviously, you'd like to have Clay out there whenever you can have him out there.
"I think with all of these guys you have to be smart and look at the big picture. But once we get back that big picture turns into a small picture of what's right in front of you. You don't want to stub your toe. We know the challenge we have.”
Frank Zombo, just promoted from the physically unable to perform list, could be thrust into a bigger role than he expected with Matthews out.
