Pagano says Donald Brown is every-down back

The best way to set up a young quarterback, even one projected to be as good as Andrew Luck, is to arm him with a good running game.

New Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano believes he has found the running back who can help make things easier for Luck - and he is right on the roster in former first-round pick Donald Brown, according to the Indianapolis Star.

“Donald is an every down back,” Pagano said during the Colts' OTAs. “He is doing a tremendous job and he is having a fantastic offseason. He understands, especially on third down as far as protections go and all of those things. Nothing is going to be more important than protections.”

Brown, a first-round pick in 2009, has mostly been a bust since joining the Colts, having battled injuries and being low on the depth chart at times. But Pagano likes the 4.8 yards per carry Brown had last year and believes he can do more in 2012.
