Panthers bring back Travelle Wharton

The Carolina Panthers brought back veteran offensive guard Travelle Wharton, who played for the NFC South club from 2004 to 2011 after being picked in the third round out of South Carolina.

Wharton was with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, but suffered a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire season.

Wharton drew interest from the Oakland Raiders, but never agreed to terms.

The Panthers could use Wharton with Bruce Campbell waived-injured due to a rotator cuff and rookie Edmund Kugbila sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Garry Williams has been starting at right offensive guard since Geoff Hangartner was cut.
