Panthers could turn to Tony Pike vs. Baltimore

The reeling Carolina Panthers suffered another blow beyond their 31-16 loss at Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Quarterback Jimmy Clausen suffered a concussion and his status for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens is very much up in the air.

Carolina coach John Fox didn’t reveal the injury in his postgame press conference, and according to the Charlotte Observer, Clausen was likely injured when Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib hit him on a quarterback sneak in the game’s closing moments.

“A bunch of people talked to him even after the game,” Fox said at his press conference today. “It was something that came on as the post-game wore on.”

The hit by Talib angered wide receiver Steve Smith, who then hit Talib after the play, drawing a 15-yard penalty.

Behind Clausen on the depth chart is rookie Tony Pike, who will replace Clausen if he cannot go against a Ravens’ defense that will be hell bent on bouncing back after coughing up a game in Atlanta last Thursday. The Panthers added Brian St. Pierre to their practice squad last week. Stay tuned.
