Panthers cut Charles Johnson

The Carolina Panthers cut veteran defensive end Charles Johnson. Johnson's release creates $11 million in salary-cap space. The Panthers want to do an extension for Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short. They placed the franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, at a cost of $13.952 million guaranteed. Defensive end Quinton Coples visited the Panthers this week. Jared Allen retired. The Panthers could pursue Jason Pierre-Paul or draft one like Emmanuel Ogbah, Jonathan Bullard or Kevin Dodd.
