Panthers pick up linebacker Luke Kuechly's $11.1 million option

The Carolina Panthers have picked up star middle linebacker Luke Kuechly's fifth-year option. Kuechly is due $11.1 million now for the 2016 season. The Panthers had until a May 3 NFL deadline to exercise the option for the former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Kuechly has led the the NFL in tackles in two of his three seasons. He was selected All-Pro each of the past two years.
