Panthers promote secondary coach Steve Wilks to assistant head coach

The Carolina Panthers have promoted secondary coach Steve Wilks to assistant head coach. Wilks is a Charlotte native who played collegiately at Appalachian State. Wilks also held the title of passing game coordinator. The Panthers' defense has ranked in the top 10 for three consecutive seasons. Wilks has a proven track record of developing defensive backs and piecing together secondaries, even when dealing with a lack of ideal personnel.
