Panthers talk to Proehl about receivers job
The Carolina Panthers have interviewed Ricky Proehl about becoming their wide receivers coach, an interesting possibility for a former player who logged 17 seasons in the NFL.
Proehl, who played his college ball at Wake Forest, caught a game-tying touchdown for the Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII and also caught the game-winning touchdown for the St. Louis Rams in the 1999 NFC Championship Game.
New head coach Ron Rivera and general manager Marty Hurney met with Proehl, according to Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer. Proehl has been working with draft prospects at a training complex he has in Greensboro, N.C., since retiring.
The Panthers made their hiring of offensive line coach John Matsko official too as they put the final pieces in place for Rivera’s staff.
