Parcells wanted to help Payton, ultimately didn't want to coach
Bill Parcells wanted to help Sean Payton out because he has a close relationship with him. But ultimately he had no desire to get back into the coaching racket.
“I've been out quite a while now. I have another life,” Parcells said on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” “I'm very happy with that.”
It’s not known if the Saints actually asked Parcells to fill in on an interim basis for suspended head coach Sean Payton. But there was enough communication between the parties for everyone to realize that is what they were working toward.
“I do have a very high regard for the coach of the Saints, Sean Payton," Parcells said. "I like him very much personally. My initial thoughts were about him."
Parcells said he wanted “to help (Payton) any way I can” but that “I didn’t really feel an inclination (to coach).”
We’ll see what direction the Saints head. It will be interesting.
