Patrick Peterson calls Calvin Johnson NFL's 2nd-best receiver

When Patrick Peterson stacks up wide receivers around the NFL, he puts Calvin Johnson No. 2 on the list.

Right behind Larry Fitzgerald, his teammate for the Arizona Cardinals.

Peterson will get a first-hand look at Johnson on Sunday when his team tangles with the Detroit Lions and the cornerback is looking forward to the matchup, one of the things to keep an eye on in what otherwise is a meeting between depressing teams.

I think I am the best cornerback in the league right now," Peterson said during a conference call with Detroit media, according to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. "I think I'm doing everything that I need to do to keep my name in consideration of the best cornerback.

“(Johnson) is second in my book behind Larry. But he's doing great things for the Detroit Lions team, and he's definitely making big plays for those guys as well."

With three games to play, Johnson has 1,546 yards receiving and needs only 303 to break Jerry Rice’s single-season total of 1,848. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Johnson could crack 2,000. Fitzgerald, meanwhile, has struggled this season with the Cardinals offense besieged with problems at quarterback and on the offensive line.

"Honestly, I would like to go one-on-one as much as I can," Peterson said. "But I believe we have a pretty good game plan, and I think we'll be ready for whatever those guys throw at us on Sunday.

"I just think going against him each and every play is definitely going to get me notoriety as being one of the best corners in the game, especially if I do what I need to do."

Peterson even said he would like to trade jerseys with Johnson after the game.

"I think it's going to be a fun matchup, and I definitely would love to have his jersey up in my trophy room at my house,” Peterson said.

Sounds like a fun matchup to watch.
