Patriots cut cornerback Ras-I Dowling

The New England Patriots gave up on oft-injured former second-round cornerback Ras-I Dowling, releasing him today.

He has a partially guaranteed contract with $351,377 of his $732,190 base salary fully guaranteed for skill, injury and cap.

The Patriots were awarded linebacker Ja'Gared David off waivers from the Houston Texans.

Selected 33rd overall out of Virginia in 2011, Dowling had issues with his quadriceps and hip. The Patriots traded the 89th overall pick in 2010 to the Carolina Panthers for a second-rounder in 2011, which became the Dowling selection.

David attended Southern Methodist.
