Patriots, Gronkowski near extension

The New England Patriots and tight end Rob Gronkowski are getting close to reaching an agreement on a new contract, says Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Gronkowski has become a major part of the Patriots offense, catching 90 passes with 17 touchdowns last year. When he suffered an ankle injury in the AFC playoffs last year that limited him in the Super Bowl, it severely affected the explosiveness of the New England offense.

Gronkowski continues to rehab the ankle as he underwent surgery following the Super Bowl loss to the New York GIants.
