Patriots place Brandon Spikes on injured reserve

In an unexpected move today, the New England Patriots placed veteran linebacker Brandon Spikes on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Spikes has 134 tackles this season.

The former second-round draft pick from Florida has 384 career tackles, and 45 more in the playoffs.

Spikes, 26, is a 6-foot-2, 255-pounder who has been with the Patriots since 2010.
