Pete Carroll remains high on Bruce Irvin

Is it premature to be concerned about first-round draft pick Bruce Irvin in Seattle? Seahawks coach Pete Carroll doesn’t seem worried at this point but as Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports, Irvin has yet to show up on a stat sheet – anywhere. No sacks. No tackles. Pass rushing skills aren’t always translated into statistical categories, though, and the Seahawks remain confident in Irvin. The club drafted him 15th overall and that surprised many observers but if they had not grabbed him there was a good possibility the Chicago Bears would have selected him at No. 19.

"He's grown in big ways here already," Carroll said. "Hopefully we'll see this week. I won't be surprised at all if he has some real quality rushes. In the game last week, if you go back, he really was close enough to have four sacks in the game.

"We know it's coming. Bruce was the most productive guy in practice throughout the camp. We keep score of that stuff, and he was the highest-ranked guy in terms of productivity. That's in sacks and tackles for losses and knocking balls loose and all that stuff."

They hope it is coming.
