Phil Emery, Jason Licht finalists for Bears' GM job
Phil Emery has not been offered the general manager job with the Chicago Bears.
But he has been invited back to Halas Hall for a second interview.
The Bears denied reports earlier today that the job is going to Emery and then announced that the Kansas City Chiefs college scouting director has been invited for another round of interviews. New England Patriots pro personnel director Jason Licht will also receive a second interview.
That means that Jimmy Raye III, the director of player personnel for the San Diego Chargers, and Marc Ross, the director of college scouting for the New York Giants are no longer in the running. It doesn’t appear that in-house candidate Tim Ruskell, the Bears’ director of player personnel, is in play any longer.
It’s possible the Bears will not make a hire for the position until next week because of Senior Bowl activities, among other reasons. Emery worked as a regional scout for the Bears from 1998 to 2004.
