Philip Rivers: I dropped it

The San Diego Chargers were at the 15-yard line and poised to pull off a road win over the Kansas City Chiefs with a chip shot field goal.

That is, until quarterback Philip Rivers went all Tony Romo by fumbling the center-quarterback exchange from Nick Hardwick, allowing the Chiefs to recover and eventually win 23-20 in overtime.

That fumble not only choked away the game for the Chargers, it breathed life into the Chiefs, who now have split the season series with San Diego and stand 4-3 in a three-way tie with the Chargers and Raiders in the AFC West.

"I dropped it. I dropped it," Rivers told the San Diego Union-Tribune after the game.

Unfortunately for Rivers, that is becoming a resounding theme this season, as he not only had the costly fumble, but also has a league-high 11 interceptions.

And while Rivers a conference championship game on his resume, he may have a little bit more Romo in him than some are willing to admit. Like Romo, Rivers can dazzle with his talents and statistics. But when all is said and done, he doesn't have nearly the resume' yet to stack up against the elite quarterbacks he is sometimes compared to in Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.
