Plaxico Burress to have MRI on ailing ankle
Plaxico Burress’ first training camp since being sent to the state pen remains an interrupted one.
The New York Jets will shut down the veteran wide receiver until at least Wednesday, and Burress is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his ailing left ankle, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
Sure, MRI’s are standard procedure for NFL clubs. Players get them all the time. But Burress has missed nearly all the last week after twisting the ankle in practice shortly after he was able to begin participating. Remember, free agents were required to wait a full week before they were allowed to begin practicing. So, Burress has missed nearly all of the on-field work.
Jets coach Rex Ryan wants the MRI to “make sure there’s nothing else there. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
“We’re trying to get Plaxico at 100 percent. On Wednesday, we’ll assume he’ll be 100 percent if we back him off completely now."
Remember, as we reported some personnel men in the NFL feared this would happen with Burress. It wasn’t a concern of how he would conform to rules but how his body would hold up. So far, the Jets are struggling to get him on the field.
