Players coming off injuries could be 2012 bargains

The first wave of free agency went quickly, as did the big bucks that go with it.

The second wave after the draft has slowed to a trickle. But there still could be some productive, albeit older, players to be had between now and training camp for teams who still have holes to fill at various positions, as Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports points out.

If a team is willing to take a chance on a veteran coming off an injury, it could be rewarded for its roll of the dice.

La Canfora points to defensive end Andre Carter, who had a Pro Bowl season before a season-ending quadriceps injury, is still available on the open market. He also says that Eric Steinbach, who had been a solid pro at guard for the Cleveland Browns but miss last year with a back injury, is close to working out for teams again.

Likewise, defensive end Antwan Odom, who sat out last season, is looking to get back in the league now that he is healthy again and working out.

For any or all of them, it may be a situation where taking a low-risk chance on bringing one of these veterans to camp could reap big rewards.
