It sounds like there is a chance Aaron Rodgers will not play now Sunday against the Detroit Lions, but it could be the Green Bay Packers play as many as three quarterbacks in a game that is meaningless to them.

This much we know: Matt Flynn, the backup to Rodgers, will probably get the bulk of the playing time. Third quarterback Graham Harrell could also see some action. Maybe the Packers don’t want their prized passer to be caught in a pass rush led by Ndamukong Suh? Who knows.

“The most important thing with Aaron is he’s ready to play," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said, according to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Whether he starts, we’ll talk about that today. It’s important for the quarterbacks, we repped all three of them this week. So, I’d like to see all three of them play in the game, is the initial plan as we started the week, and we’ll make those decisions here after we meet with our game management and go on to tomorrow’s quarterback meeting."

Flynn looked solid in an appearance last season and signs all week have pointed to him getting significant work in this game.

“I want to see Matt Flynn play like he did in New England, but take it a step further – win the game," McCarthy said. "Had an opportunity for him to take some no-huddle and two-minute versus the defense today, just to get him ready for that second half. He’s been able to get a lot of the situational work throughout the week. I’d like to see him take the next step."

He’ll get that step sooner if he is the starter and Rodgers watches the entire time from the sideline.
