Progress for Pierre Thomas contract could be on the way
Pierre Thomas has yet to sign his tender as a restricted free agent with the New Orleans Saints as he’s holding out hope there is a bigger pot of gold for him this season.
Maybe that rainbow is going to appear soon. Fox 8 Sports in New Orleans reports that Thomas could receive a multi-year offer from the club as soon as today.
New Orleans has tendered Thomas at the second-round level, meaning he would earn $1.68 million this season. After emerging as the top rusher for the Super Bowl champions, he’s angling for something bigger and better from the club, which last week made Jahri Evans the highest-paid guard in the NFL.
Making big investments in running backs can be a dangerous game. The Saints have found out as much with Reggie Bush, the second pick of the 2006 draft. Many teams are content to sift through the later rounds of the draft and free agents to assemble their backfields.
We’ll have to wait and see what is in store for Thomas.
